New State Police barracks take shape in Tarrytown.

New York State Police responsible for patrolling the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge and the Thruway system in the Lower Hudson Valley will be getting a new home in Tarrytown. Tappan Zee Constructors (TZC) has made considerable progress on the 16,000-square-foot Zone 1 Headquarters for Troop T.

The Troopers previously shared a smaller facility with Thruway Authority maintenance personnel on the north side of the Thruway before being temporarily relocated in 2014.

Later this year, TZC will wrap up the new barracks’ concrete and steel structure, clad the building with its signature metal panels, and continue interior work.

Both the barracks and the new Thruway maintenance facility are designed to include numerous environmentally efficient features, including reduced water and energy usage. Energy-efficient appliances and equipment will also help the facility exceed its energy code requirements. The buildings will also be constructed with many recycled elements, including steel, aluminum, glass and even carpeting.
