Economic Impact

The New NY Bridge project is dedicated to supporting the businesses and economic development of the region during construction.

Major structural elements of the new bridge were produced right here in the Northeast, and thousands of jobs were created both on the Hudson and at off-site facilities.

Made Right Here

The decision to utilize local products and labor on the New NY Bridge project provided great opportunities to the region. It gave the local economy a significant boost while assuring the project had quality goods and services. The local and national firms supporting the bridge project brought value, provided innovation, creativity and many years of oversight experience. Their involvement resulted in cost-effective manufacturing and reliable materials.

The Buy America Initiative

The Buy America initiative requires that all iron, steel and manufactured goods used in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) projects be produced in the United States. The New NY Bridge project is no exception, and is a perfect example of how the ARRA is strengthening the economy.

Creating Jobs in New York

Construction has created thousands of direct and indirect jobs involving nearly 1400 companies. As the project continues, New Yorkers will continue to reap economic benefits.

The New York State Department of Labor was the main resource for all direct and indirect job openings related to the project.
