The New NY Bridge took another leap forward this week with the installation of the first structural steel on the new bridge's westbound (northern) span. The 390-foot segment of steel was previously assembled from three individual girders at the Tappan Zee Constructors, LLC (TZC) Port of Coeymans facility in Albany County.

Last week saw completion of the second of the New NY Bridge project's two main span pile caps. More than 20,000 cubic yards of concrete were used to fill the massive foundations for the new bridge's 419-foot towers.

The New NY Bridge project has made extraordinary progress since construction operations began in 2013. Now with steel-reinforced foundations and concrete piers in place, the project continues to move forward with the installation of enormous steel-blue girders that will support the road deck on the new twin-span bridge. You can see more than two years of work for yourself in just two minutes in this Project Progress time lapse video.

On the heels of completing the second of two massive foundations for the new crossing's main span, the New NY Bridge project has reached another foundation milestone for its approach spans: The final precast pile cap was installed for this phase of construction on Thursday August 20, 2015. Since installation of the tennis-court-sized bases began one year ago almost to the day, 60 approach span pile caps have been placed atop groups of piles.
